In a move ahead of Friday's transfer deadline, Peterborough United have secured the services of Manchester City's young defender, Jadel Katongo, on a season-long loan.

Katongo, who embarked on his football journey with Manchester City's academy as an under-9, emerged as a significant talent over the years.

The centre back played a pivotal role in the under-18s, being the youngest member when they secured the title in the 2020-2021 season.

His contribution didn't stop there; he played 18 times for the club in the subsequent season, aiding them in lifting the title once again.

The 2022/23 season saw Katongo making strides into City's Elite Development Squad (EDS), marking his first appearance for Pep Guardiola's main squad in a friendly against Girona last December.

Posh's boss, Darren Ferguson, expressed his elation over the acquisition.

“I am delighted," said Ferguson, adding, "He is a young boy that we know really well, we feel that he is ready for his first loan away from the club.”

He also emphasized Katongo's versatility and potential, noting, “He can play in a back four or a back three and can also play at right-back."

Discussing the trust Manchester City has placed in the youngster, Ferguson remarked, “Manchester City rate him highly. We have had good conversations with them, there were other clubs in for him, but he has decided to come here, which we are pleased about."

Reflecting on his move, an enthusiastic Katongo shared, “I feel that I am ready for my first experience of playing men’s football and I am looking forward to it."

He further expressed gratitude for the time spent at Manchester City, emphasizing its invaluable role in shaping his football journey, "I have been at Manchester City since I was very young, it is a brilliant place to play your football.”
