League Preview: Athlone Town -v- Wexford
ATHLONE TOWN
Athlone Town welcome Wexford to the Athlone Town Stadium on Friday night (kick-off is at 7.45pm).
Dario Castelo’s side had no game last weekend – but it was a welcome break.
A fortnight ago, Athlone claimed a thrilling 3-2 win over local rivals Longford Town, with Frantz Pierrot scoring a brace late on at Bishopsgate.
The win ensured that the Co Westmeath men would head into this weekend’s game with a safety buffer built up between them and the play-off chasing pack.
“My plan is always to work,” Castelo said on what his plans were going to be for the two-week break between fixtures.
“Work. Work. Work. I will be looking to work with my players to develop the team to create more chances in games and then I will look to develop the players.
“The teams in the league, like us, sometimes play with their heart more than their head. I am sure that will be a fantastic game.”
WEXFORD
After sealing their place in the last-eight of the FAI Cup thanks to a narrow win over St Pat’s CY on Sunday, Wexford will be hoping that they maintain their play-off place this weekend.
Following an indifferent start to the year, Wexford are now sitting inside the play-off places ahead of closest challengers Bray Wanderers and Longford Town.
And they will be looking to sustain their run of form when they visit the Midlands on Friday evening.
However, they will have to do so without the services of Aaron Robinson who remains out with a long-term knee injury.
But they have been boosted with the return to fitness of Conor Levingston, with the former Bohemians midfielder missing for the last few weeks.
Referee: Paul Norton.
