Chelsea's Chukwuemeka undergoes knee surgery
Carney Chukwuemeka, who equalised for Chelsea in their recent match against West Ham United, underwent surgery last night following a knee injury sustained during the game.
The injury forced the 19-year-old midfielder off the pitch, with Mykhailo Mudryk replacing him at half-time.
Despite Chukwuemeka's efforts, Chelsea lost 3-1 to West Ham, with goals coming from Nayef Aguerd, Michail Antonio, and a late penalty by Lucas Paqueta.
West Ham saw Aguerd was sent off in the 67th minute, but Chelsea failed to capitalise on their numerical advantage.
The youngster, who made his move to Chelsea from Aston Villa this summer, will now embark on a recovery period expected to last over a month.
The club stated in a media statement that he will work closely with Chelsea's medical team at Cobham for his rehabilitation.
