Julie-Ann Russell rejoins Galway United for remainder of 2023 Season
Galway United has confirmed the signing of Irish international forward Julie-Ann Russell for the remainder of the 2023 season.
Russell, a Galway native, returns to Eamonn Deacy Park after taking maternity leave. Her last appearance for Galway WFC was in the 2022 season.
With 59 caps for the Republic of Ireland, Russell's credentials are well established.
She won the Women’s Premier Division title with Peamount United in 2012.
Russell was also awarded the Women’s National League Player of the Year in the 2013-14 season and the FAI Senior Women's Soccer International Player of the Year for the 2014-15 season.
Beyond Ireland, Russell has played in Australia for the Western Sydney Wanderers in the Women’s A-League. She also secured several titles with Sydney University between 2017-2020.
In a statement to the club's media team, Russell expressed her enthusiasm about rejoining Galway United:
“It feels amazing. Galway United is my home club,” she said.
Emphasizing the talent in the current squad, she added, "It’s a young squad, but the girls have phenomenal talent and have done amazingly in the first half of the season."
"So, I just want to bring the experience that I have from over the years. I played with a lot of them last year and they were a pleasure to play with, so I’m looking forward to that again."
