Sheffield United have signed 26-year-old Dutch midfielder Gustavo Hamer from Championship team Coventry City.

The former Sky Blues has committed to a four-year contract with the Blades for an undisclosed fee.

Hamer has consistently performed at a high level for Coventry, having been honored with consecutive Player of the Year awards at the CBS Arena for the seasons 2021/22 and 2022/23.

Reflecting on his transfer to Sheffield, an elated Hamer shared, "I still can't believe it, playing in the Premier League is every little boy's dream and I'm going to be doing it with Sheffield United, a massive club. Tomorrow (Saturday) it will be real. I've played here before with Coventry and I remember the song when the players walk out, it's amazing, thrilling."

Although born in Brazil, Hamer moved to the Netherlands during his childhood and began his football career with Feyenoord.

He earned international caps for the Dutch youth teams and made his professional debut against Ajax in 2017. Before joining Coventry, Hamer gained experience from a loan period at FC Dordrecht and later transferred to the Dutch top-flight team PEC Zwolle.

Throughout his tenure at Coventry, Hamer amassed a total of 132 appearances, scoring 19 goals. His performance in the last season saw him netting 11 times and clinching the Championship Player of the Month award for April.

Sheffield United's manager, Paul Heckingbottom, expressed his enthusiasm about the new acquisition, stating, "Gustavo is someone I've admired for a few years, mainly because of his high energy, high work-rate performances and his bravery to take the ball in difficult positions. His quality has improved year on year and we hope that continues in his time with the Blades."
