Cork City travel to Jackman Park tomorrow afternoon, to face a Limerick side who many believe could be the surprise package of the season in the First Divsion (kick-off 4.30pm).
Pat Scully’s side have had a decent start to the season, with wins over Finn Harps and Longford Town in recent weeks, and currently reside in third place with only unbeaten Shelbourne and Waterford United ahead of them.
The Limerick boss will yet again pit his hopes on another John Tierney goal – the striker has scored three times in four appearances so far this campaign. The Blues have only conceded twice so far this season and the rearguard, headed up by ‘keeper Dave Ryan, will need to be at their best to keep out a Cork side which put four past Mervue last Friday.
Shane Duggan was the hero at Turner’s Cross last weekend, grabbing a hat-trick in the clubs first win, and the silky midfielder will have an integral part to play if the away side are to come back down the N20 with anything from the game.
Tommy Dunne’s side will be without the services of Gearoid Morrissey – the youngster has yet to make his debut after returning from Blackburn due to a back injury. Dave Warren, who has damaged a thigh muscle, will also be absent for a couple of weeks. Cathal Lordan is also a doubt, but he will be given until the latest opportunity to prove his fitness.
Despite a forecasted downpour on Shannonside, a big crowd is expected at Jackman Park, though it would be unsurprising if the away side support outnumbered those in Blue. It will become standard fare for both Cork and Derry to outnumber other sides away from home this season, but home advantage should still see Limerick edge past the Leesiders.
