Sheffield United sign Brazilian midfielder Vinícius Souza
Ahead of the start of the new Premier League season, Sheffield United have added the Brazilian midfielder, Vinícius Souza, to their squad.
The 24-year-old has committed to a four-year deal, with the Blades securing his signature from Belgian outfit Lommel SK for a significant undisclosed fee.
This marks the fifth signing for manager Paul Heckingbottom this summer, strengthening the midfield options following Vinícius's impressive 37-game stint in La Liga with Espanyol last season.
Speaking on the new addition, Heckingbottom said, "Vini is athletic, enjoys the defensive side of the game and likes to compete. He's someone we've tracked for a long time, having first become aware of him over a year ago."
"Initially, we thought we might get him on loan, but we're delighted to have him on a permanent basis. His addition is a result of concerted efforts, and the fact that he chose us over other options speaks volumes."
The Rio de Janeiro-born midfielder began his professional journey with Flamengo. He then made a switch to Lommel SK in 2020.
After a successful loan spell at Belgian side KV Mechelen during the 2021/22 season, Vinícius moved on loan to Espanyol in Spain.
Upon joining Sheffield United, an elated Vinícius said, "I'm very happy to be here, signing for the Blades. I'm grateful to everyone involved in making this move possible. The coach's messages of support have been uplifting. Playing in the Premier League has been a dream of mine, and I'm excited to face any team that comes our way."
Vinícius joins a host of new arrivals at Bramall Lane, including Anis Slimane, Yasser Larouci, Benie Traore, and Auston Trusty.
