Christos Tzolis joins Fortuna Düsseldorf on season-long loan from Norwich City
21-year-old Christos Tzolis has finalized a season-long loan move to the 2. Bundesliga side, Fortuna Düsseldorf.
The Greek attacking player, who hails from Thessaloniki, has previously made 30 appearances for Norwich City's first team and managed to score three times.
Having ended the last season in fourth place, Fortuna Düsseldorf was just eight points shy of the Bundesliga promotion play-off.
The club has already kick-started its 2023/24 league campaign, currently holding fifth position with four points from two games.
Tzolis's football journey began in Thessaloniki, starting with Doxa Pentalofos and later with PAOK. He later explored opportunities with youth teams in Germany before returning to PAOK, which became the launchpad for his professional career.
In 2021, Tzolis made a move to the Premier League with Norwich City. This was followed by a stint with FC Twente Enschede in the Dutch Eredivisie.
Additionally, he has represented the Greek national team on 13 occasions, and most recently, played for Greece's U21s.
Speaking on the acquisition, Klaus Allofs, Head of Sport & Communication, expressed, “Signing an attacking player was high on our agenda. We've had Christos on the list for a long time and are very happy that we've now been able to finalize the transfer. Despite his young age, he already has considerable international experience and can help us straight away.”
Christian Weber, the sporting director, echoed similar sentiments, stating, “With Christos we have gained a versatile and dangerous offensive player who has already proven his abilities at a high level. He's dying to play at Fortuna and will definitely do our game good with his quality in the last third and his determination."
Tzolis himself is enthusiastic about the move, saying, "I'm really looking forward to Fortuna and the fans. My goal is to play as many games as possible with the team and to help the team with my skills. I felt the trust of those responsible from the beginning of the talks and I hope that we will all have a successful time together.”
