Dundalk announces signing of attacker Sam Durrant
Dundalk have confirmed the acquisition of 21-year-old forward Sam Durrant.
Durrant joins Dundalk on a free transfer, subject to international clearance, following the termination of his contract with Sheffield Wednesday.
The attacker boasts a rich youth career, having played at Everton and Liverpool, and had a four-year tenure with Blackburn Rovers where he played alongside fellow Dundalk player Louie Annesley in the U23 team.
He transferred to Sheffield Wednesday in the summer of 2022 and debuted for the Owls' first-team on the final day of the League One season in May.
Lilywhites head coach Stephen O’Donnell expressed his satisfaction with the new signing, stating, "Sam was here for a couple of days before our European game in Gibraltar recently and he did really well. After qualifying in the first round in Europe, we wanted to pursue him, so we’re delighted to bring him in until the end of the season."
Durrant is Dundalk's second signing in two days, following the return of Daryl Horgan on Tuesday.
"With Daryl's reputation and familiarity, Sam might go under the radar a bit," said O’Donnell.
"However, he is a player that can add to our attacking strength, and he looks sharp."
While Durrant trained with his new teammates on Wednesday, he will not be eligible for Thursday’s UEFA Europa Conference League second qualifying round tie with KA Akureyri.
However, pending international clearance, he may make his debut in Sunday’s SSE Airtricity Men’s Premier Division match against Shelbourne at Oriel Park.
In an interview with dundalkfc.com, Durrant expressed his excitement, stating, "I really enjoyed the few days I had here previously. It’s a great group and I got to know what the club is all about, so I can’t wait to get started. I like to get on the ball and be creative, and I believe I can really be an asset to the team. I’ve been keeping fit, and I feel fit and sharp so hopefully, I can play a part on Sunday."
