Plymouth Argyle have announced the return of midfielder Finn Azaz on a season-long loan from Aston Villa.

Azaz, who will turn 23 in September, played a crucial role in Argyle's Sky Bet League One championship triumph last season.

He found the net eight times in 38 appearances, including some pivotal moments in the campaign.

He scored both the inaugural goal of Argyle’s season, securing a 1-0 home victory against Barnsley, and the final one against Port Vale, helping the Greens clinch the title with a 3-1 win.

Azaz hails from London and began his football career in West Bromwich Albion's youth system.

After his first professional contract with the Baggies, he spent the 2020/21 season on loan to Cheltenham Town, playing a significant role in their League Two championship win with 37 appearances.

Azaz soon pledged his loyalty to Aston Villa and embarked on another loan journey to Newport County, earning recognition in the League Two Team of the Season for 2021/22 and winning the divisional Young Player of the Season.

He then made his move to Argyle for the following season, endearing himself to the Green Army with his performances.

Manager Steven Schumacher expressed his delight on Azaz's return, stating, “It is great to have Finn back on board. He was so influential for us last season, scoring big goals and providing vital assists. His creativity and quick thinking will be invaluable in the Championship. I believe Finn is more than capable of stepping up a division and making a significant impact.”

Argyle’s Director of Football, Neil Dewsnip, shared Schumacher's enthusiasm, adding, “It is fantastic to have another player back at Argyle who performed so well for us last season. It's not just about adding talent to our ranks, but it also shows that these players believe in what we are trying to achieve and enjoy playing in our environment. We're thrilled that Finn will be with us for another year.”
