Former Arsenal keeper Tom Smith returns to Colchester United
Tom Smith has officially reunited with Colchester United, following his departure from Arsenal at the end of his contract this summer.
The midfielder, who spent the latter half of the previous season with the U's, will continue his tenure in north Essex until the summer of 2025.
While on the books at Arsenal, Smith went out on loan to Dover Athletic, Welling United, Bromley and more recently Colchester.
Smith rejoins his former manager Ben Garner and his Colchester teammates just in time for the new season.
He believes the familiarity with most of the squad and the team's style of play will be an advantage, especially given the proximity to the season's start.
Reflecting on his recent move, Smith shared his relief with cu-fc.com, saying, "It’s been a long few weeks since leaving Arsenal, but now I’m delighted it’s done and I can get going for the season."
He added, "The bulk of the team is still there along with the manager and the style of play, so it made it quite an easy decision. I didn’t feel like I was out of place, it’s just like home."
