Leicester City has announced the signing of 25-year-old forward Stephy Mavididi from French Ligue 1 side Montpellier HSC.

The acquisition, subject to league and international clearance, adds firepower to the Foxes' attacking department.

Mavididi, who has inked a five-year deal with the club, arrives at the King Power Stadium for an undisclosed fee.

With over 100 Ligue 1 appearances under his belt, Mavididi brings with him a wealth of experience from the top tier of French football, along with his reputation as a dynamic and flexible forward.

Expressing his excitement at joining Leicester City, Mavididi told LCFC.com, “I’m honestly happy and delighted to be here. Speaking to the Manager and some of the staff here, it was a no brainer for me... I wanted to come back to England, I felt like it was time to come home and continue my football here.”

Born in Derby, Mavididi honed his skills at Arsenal's academy for eight years before gaining EFL experience during loan spells with Charlton Athletic and Preston North End.

His performances attracted the attention of Juventus, leading to a permanent move in 2018. After developing further with the Turin club's Under-23s, he made another successful loan move, this time to Dijon in France, in 2019.

During a season cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic, Mavididi became Dijon’s top scorer in 2019/20, netting eight goals.

This impressive display led to a transfer to Montpellier in the summer of 2020, where he quickly established himself as a first team regular.

The former England youth international holds the record as the most-capped English player in Ligue 1 history, surpassing Chris Waddle's previous record by making his 108th appearance in the division.

Mavididi will join Leicester City’s squad under Enzo Maresca when they return from their pre-season tour in Southeast Asia.
