Newport County has secured the return of Liverpool's left-sided defender Adam Lewis on a season-long loan, subject to EFL approval, ahead of the new League Two campaign.

Lewis, 23, left a positive impact at Rodney Parade last season before an unfortunate injury cut his stint short in February.

During his previous loan at Newport County, Lewis displayed his versatility and impressive crossing abilities, making 21 league appearances, contributing one goal and six assists.

Lewis, a local Liverpool product, has represented England at Under-16, U17, U19 and U20 levels.

He joined the Reds Academy at the under-six level and gradually rose through the ranks to the U23 side, even captaining the U18s under Steven Gerrard in the 2017-18 season.

His senior debut came in the FA Cup fourth-round replay victory over Shrewsbury Town at Anfield in February 2020. He regularly trained with Jürgen Klopp's squad.

After loan stints at French side Amiens SC, Plymouth Argyle and Scottish Premiership side Livingston, Lewis found his way to Newport last season, leaving an indelible impression on the squad and the fans.

Newport County boss Graham Coughlan expressed his delight at having Lewis back.“

Adam is great to have at the back and it is fantastic to have him back around the club! Adam gives us a couple of options and qualities that we were lacking previously. We’d like to thank Liverpool F.C for helping us get this move complete.”

Lewis also voiced his excitement about the move: “I love Newport. I’ve loved it ever since I came here, I’m really hoping we have a good season and achieve what we want to achieve.”
