Salford City signs Scottish winger Connor McLennan in one-year deal
Scottish winger Connor McLennan has inked an initial one-year deal with Salford City, following his release from Aberdeen in the summer.
The 23-year-old is set to bring his solid experience and skillset to The Peninsula Stadium, marking his first foray into English football.
McLennan, an Aberdeen academy product, had spent the last 15 years with the Dons. He managed to notch up 107 appearances since his debut in April 2016, contributing eight goals and 11 assists.
McLennan also spent time on loan at Brechin City during the 2016-17 and 2017-18 seasons, and played for St. Johnstone in 2022-23, where he scored one goal and assisted two more in 27 outings.
Being a former youth international for Scotland, McLennan is already acquainted with some of the Salford City squad members.
Expressing his excitement about the move, McLennan said, “I’m delighted to be here, I honestly can’t wait to get started! I’ve had some good conversations with the manager, I’m really intrigued to come and play for the club."
McLennan also highlighted that he knew a few players in Salford City, including Callum Hendry, whom he played with at Aberdeen.
The prospect of a new challenge and the allure of the club's football style were key elements in his decision to join Salford City.
“I fancied a change, I know a few boys down here and Callum Hendry I played with at Aberdeen, I played against a few of them up the road as well."
"Coming down here is a new challenge, and once I spoke to the manager it was something I’m really looking forward to doing."
"I don’t think Callum had to encourage me much more to be fair, it’s a really good club and he really emphasised the style of football that we play."
"That’s all you really want as a footballer is to play for a club that plays good football and I’m looking forward to it.”
