Doncaster Rovers secure Hull City's Tom Nixon on a season-long loan
Adding to their summer signings, Doncaster Rovers have confirmed the acquisition of right-back Tom Nixon on a season-long loan from Hull City.
The 20-year-old's arrival marks the club's tenth signing this summer.
Nixon, a former Stoke City Academy player and U18s captain, joins Rovers in what he describes as a "massive step" in his career.
"Hopefully I’ll get some game time under my belt and hit the ground running. That’s what I’m here to do and I’m really looking forward to the season," Nixon said.
He also expressed optimism about the prospect of playing at this higher level and hopes to progress further in his career.
At Hull City, Nixon had the opportunity to work under Grant McCann and Cliff Byrne, and his move to Rovers reunites him with these figures.
Despite not having had a senior-level appearance for the Tigers, Nixon gained valuable experience during his loan spell with Boston United in the National League North last season.
Rovers manager Grant McCann lauded Nixon's abilities and potential, saying, "Tom is an excellent player. I saw him first hand when I was at Hull and he was coming through the U21s."
He believes Nixon's loan period at Boston has significantly boosted his development, and his addition to the team will heighten the competition for the full-back position.
"He’s everything we like in a full back so I think it’s a great signing for us. He’ll enjoy his time here," McCann added.
