Walsall has announced the signing of Ross Tierney from Scottish Premiership side Motherwell on a season-long loan deal.

Tierney, a 22-year-old midfielder, launched his professional career with the League of Ireland's Bohemians, where he marked his debut with a goal in a League of Ireland Cup victory against Cork City.

He became a prominent figure in the Bohemians’ first team in the 2021 season, impressing with nine goals in all competitions and six appearances in the UEFA Europa Conference League, scoring against Stjarnan and F91 Dudelange.

Motherwell took note of Tierney’s talent and signed him on a three-and-a-half-year deal at the start of 2022.

During his stint with Motherwell, Tierney found the back of the net four times, scoring notable goals against Scottish giants Celtic and Rangers.

The young talent also made his mark internationally, earning nine caps with the Republic of Ireland Under 21s and scoring on his debut against Australia in June 2021.

“I’m really happy to join Walsall,” Tierney said. “I’m an energetic, attacking midfielder and I like to link up with the strikers so hopefully I can pitch in with some assists and goals. I want to play games, kick on here at Walsall and have a good season.”

Walsall Head Coach Mat Sadler expressed his excitement over Tierney's arrival.

“Ross comes into the building and will bring some really good competition in that midfield area,” Sadler said.

"He provides a bit of a different option to what we currently have and I’m especially looking forward to work with him because of his high energy, work rate and he wants to make defenders defend."
