Dundalk line up potential date with Danish side Aarhus or Club Brugge
In Monday’s Europa Conference League third round qualifying draw, Dundalk have been drawn against the winners of the tie between Club Brugge (Belgium) and AGF Aarhus (Denmark) and will play one of those teams should they come through their upcoming tie against KA of Iceland.
In their first round qualifier, the Lilywhites followed a first leg scoreless draw away with a win at home to make the second qualifying round of the Europa Conference League.
Dundalk won 3-1 against Gibraltar side Bruno’s Magpies in Oriel Park to progress to face Icelandic side KA Akureyri (who beat Welsh club Connah’s Quay Nomads 2-0 home and away).
The first leg takes place in Fram Reykjavik’s ground next Thursday 27th July (kick off 7pm Irish time).
The return leg in Oriel Park will have a 7.45pm kick off on Thursday 3rd August.
Should the Lilywhites exit in the second qualifying round they will earn €550,000 - €350k for second round elimination plus €200k (€100k for for each round they played in).
A win in the second round, lining up that tie with either Aarhus or Club Brugge, would add a further €300,000 to that €0.55m pot.
Progression through another round into the play-off round would guarantee them €1.15m while the prize of group stage qualification for all three League of Ireland club’s still in Europe is a minimum of €3.34 m.
