Coventry City has announced the signing of defender Bobby Thomas on a four-year contract from Burnley.

Thomas, 22, began his professional journey with Everton and Crewe Alexandra, before signing a scholarship with Burnley in 2017. He rose through the ranks at the Clarets.

Thrilled about his move to Coventry City, Thomas said, “I’m buzzing and I’m really happy to be here, I can’t wait to get started now. I was excited when I heard of the interest and now I’m here, I can’t wait to get started.”

Speaking about his first conversation with the manager, Thomas shared, “He was just telling me the Club’s going in the right direction, his playing style, and how he’s going to develop me as a player.”

Thomas also appreciated his time on loan with Barnsley, saying, “I played lots of football and games, and we got good results, and I enjoyed my time there with a good group of lads.”

Thomas affirmed, “I’ve come here to play games and progress personally and with the team, that’s the most important thing for me.”

The anticipation for the upcoming season is palpable for the young defender.

“I will get a few weeks with the players on the pitch with the staff as well and try adjust ready for the first game of the season against Leicester. I’m looking forward to all of them, I can’t wait to get the season started.”

Manager Mark Robins also expressed his delight at Thomas's arrival.

He remarked, “We are delighted to welcome Bobby to Coventry City. He is a talented young defender, who is highly rated and had impressive loan spells at both Bristol Rovers and Barnsley last season. We’re very pleased that Bobby has chosen to join Coventry City to continue his development and his arrival further boosts our defensive options.”
