French international Moussa Diaby makes his move to Aston Villa
Aston Villa has acquired French international winger Moussa Diaby from Bayer Leverkusen.
Diaby, 24, an accomplished player with ten international caps for France, started his career at his hometown club, Paris Saint-Germain.
Moving to Bayer Leverkusen in 2019, Diaby's performances in the Bundesliga, Champions League, and Europa League garnered the attention of multiple European clubs.
Last season, Diaby scored 14 goals across all competitions.
In a statement published on www.avfc.co.uk, Unai Emery, Aston Villa's head coach, expressed his excitement about Diaby's signing.
"For us, Moussa Diaby is one player we were following. He’s helping us, trying to improve our level of play in the attacking third, sometimes playing on the right, sometimes he’s playing as a No.10 and sometimes he’s playing as a left winger. We are really excited and are really happy with him," Emery said.
He also praised Diaby's capabilities as a striker and his experience in Europe, highlighting his ability to bring more power to the team.
Aston Villa's captain, John McGinn, was equally thrilled with Diaby's arrival, marking the club’s third signing of the summer, following Youri Tielemans and Pau Torres.
"You’re excited by him coming in, he’s certainly going to improve us. He’s a little bit faster than me…I’m excited," stated McGinn.
He further noted Diaby's familiarity with some of the players and his European experience, which could greatly benefit the team.
The newly signed 24-year-old is set to commence training with the team on Monday.
The Aston Villa team, along with Diaby, continues their pre-season tour in the U.S., gearing up for their Summer Series fixture against Newcastle United.
