Four League of Ireland sides were in action in Europe this week but only three continue on as St. Patrick’s Athletic become the first side out after losing in Inchicore to F91 Dudelange 3-2 (5-3 on aggregate).

The Saints earned €250,000 from their campaign - €150k for exiting in the Europa Conference League in first qualifying round plus €100k for playing one round.

Shamrock Rovers

While the Hoops exited the Champions League qualifiers at the hands of Icelandic side Breidablik, the three-in-a-row League of Ireland champions parachute into the second qualifying round of the Europa Conference League.

There they will face five-in-row Hungarian Champions Ferencvaros – with the first leg away from home in Budapest next Thursday (kick-off a 6pm kick-off Irish time).

The second leg is set for Tallaght Stadium with an 8pm kick-off on Thursday 3rd August.

Should the champions exit at this point, they will earn €810,000 in total. This breaks down as €350k for second round elimination plus €200k (€100k for each round they played in) and an additional €260,000 as domestic champions eliminated before reaching the group stages.

They face a tough task against a Ferencvaros side who beat Rovers 4-0 in Budapest in the first leg with Rovers winning 1-0 in Tallaght.

If they can overcome the Hungarian side it would see their total earnings go to €1.11m.

Progression one round further into the play-off round would guarantee them €1.41m, while the prize of group stage qualification would be worth a minimum of €3.34 m.

Derry City

The Candystripes beat Torshavn 1-0 in Derry thanks to a Sadou Diallo goal after the first leg ended scoreless in the Faroe Islands in their Europa Conference League first round qualifier.

They will now take on Finnish side KuPS with the first leg at home in the Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium next Thursday (kick off 7.45pm). The return leg is set for seven days later with a 5pm kick-off (Irish Time).

Should City exit at this point, they will earn €550,000. This breaks down as €350k for second round elimination plus €200k (€100k for each round they played in). A win in the second round would add a further €300,000 to that €0.55m pot.

Progression further to the play-off round would guarantee them €1.15m while the prize of group stage qualification is worth €3.34 m at mimimum.

Dundalk

Similar to Derry City, the Lilywhites followed a first leg scoreless draw away with a win at home to make the second qualifying round of the Europa Conference League.

Dundalk won 3-1 against Gibraltar side Bruno’s Magpies in Oriel Park to progress to face Icelandic side KA Akureyri (who beat Welsh club Connah’s Quay Nomads 2-0 home and away).

The first leg takes place in Fram Reykjavik’s ground next Thursday 27th July (kick off 7pm Irish time).

The return leg in Oriel Park will have a 7.45pm kick off on Thursday 3rd August.

The prize money is the same as City so should the Lilywhites exit in the second qualifying round they will earn €550,000 - €350k for second round elimination plus €200k (€100k for for each round they played in). A win in the second round would add a further €300,000 to that €0.55m pot.

Progression to the play-off round would guarantee them €1.15m while the prize of group stage qualification for any of the League of Ireland clubs is a minimum of €3.34 million.
