Man United sign goalkeeper Andre Onana and names Bruno Fernandes as club captain
Manchester United have confirmed that Cameroonian goalkeeper Andre Onana has joined the club on a contract running until June 2028, with the option of an additional year.
Onana, who previously played for Ajax and Inter, has recorded 104 clean sheets in 255 club appearances and won a number of titles including three league titles with Ajax and a Coppa Italia with Inter.
“To join Manchester United is an incredible honor," said Onana. "Manchester United has a long history of incredible goalkeepers, and I will now give everything to create my own legacy in the coming years."
John Murtough, Manchester United's football director, hailed Onana as the club's top choice for the new goalkeeper, adding that "Andre will further add to the winning mentality we are building within our squad."
In another announcement, the club confirmed that Portuguese midfielder Bruno Fernandes has been named as the new club captain replacing Harry Maguire in the role.
Fernandes, who has already worn the armband on several occasions, has been a key figure in United's squad since his arrival in 2020, scoring 64 goals and contributing 54 assists in just 185 games.
