Joe Hodge sets sights on Aviva Stadium and senior Ireland call-up
In an exclusive interview with Wolves' official website, Joe Hodge expressed his excitement for Wolves' upcoming pre-season friendly against Celtic at Dublin's Aviva Stadium.
Hodge, who recently captained the Republic of Ireland's under-21s, is determined to establish himself as a key player for Julen Lopetegui's team this season and has aspirations of earning a senior call-up for his country.
Speaking to the official Wolves website, Hodge said, "I’m buzzing for it. I can’t wait, to be honest. Celtic are a top side – everyone knows that – they are a huge football club and hopefully it should make for a good game in a class stadium."
Hodge, who is yet to play at the Aviva Stadium, expressed his desire to make this game the first of many appearances at the prestigious venue.
"I’ve been a couple of times to the Aviva before, I’ve never played there though, but I’ve watched a fair few games, so hopefully if I get a game there at the end of this month it will be first of many I get there," he added.
The midfielder, having recently captained the Republic of Ireland's under-21s, is determined to showcase his abilities and earn a senior call-up.
Hodge said, "I’m dying to be part of the squad. I feel like if I can perform to the level that I know I’m capable of and get more minutes under my belt then I’m sure I will be in contention to being called up. That’s definitely my intention because I want to play for Ireland and hopefully as soon as possible."
With ambitions to become a key player for Wolves, Hodge emphasized his determination to contribute consistently.
"I want to be a big player for Wolves. I want to play, I want to play every week, and I’m fine saying that," Hodge stated.
Acknowledging the guidance of Julen Lopetegui, Hodge acknowledged the importance of listening and improving based on the manager's instructions.
He noted the positive atmosphere within the squad and expressed optimism about building on the team's progress from the previous season.
As Wolves prepare for the new season, Hodge aims to make the most of the pre-season period.
He said, "For me, I’m just focused on doing the best I can in pre-season. I’m trying to get my way in the team, and I know I want to play for Wolves, I want to become a starter here, so that’s all I’m trying to do and then we’ll see where we go throughout pre-season for me personally."
