Week 4

One of the problems I find as a punter on League of Ireland football is that there are only 11 matches each weekend! The majority of football punters like picking up their weekend longlist from the bookies office and have a selection of over 60 English and Scottish league games to find one or two teams they fancy and can throw them in with the bankers like Celtic (maybe not this season), Rangers, and Man United in Old Trafford to build up the odds.

If you're an online punter and you click on the UK Coupon on paddypower.com there can be over 100 games to choose from when you consider all the non league games. In the League of Ireland you've only got 11.

This brings me nicely to the point that I'm struggling to find a bet to recommend for the weekend. Looking at a fixture like Dundalk v St Pat's it's very hard to fancy a bet with any confidence. It's at times like this that it can, quite literally, pay to look at some of the more obscure markets. There are nearly 60 betting options available for League of Ireland games and in the live RTE game Galway v Rovers I might just have picked out a nice bet.

Rovers' problems are mainly up front, though judging by last Sunday's showing they've more to worry about than Gary Twigg being missing, while Galway haven't been exactly prolific either, drawing blanks in 2 games. A bet that could at least ease the boredom, if the game is heading that way, is backing either one or both teams NOT to score. This covers the options of a 0-0 draw or either team to win while keeping a clean sheet (1-0, 2-0, 3-0 etc). This is currently priced at 8/11 and when compared to the 1/2 on offer that there are less than 3 goals it seems to offer a good deal more value.

Again another more obscure bet I've picked out is in Bohs v the other Rovers - with Joey Ndo coming back to town. Sligo made it tough for Bohs on their visits to Dalymount last year and got a couple of wins against them in the Showgrounds, there's nothing to suggest that will change this season so backing Bohs at odds as short as 2/5 would be foolhardy. Bohs haven't been overly impressive so far with 1 goal wins against Fingal and UCD before a late rally against Drogheda to win 4-2. So in what should be a tight match backing Bohs to win by exactly 1 goal again at 11/5 could be the way to go.

Recommendations:
galway United v Shamrock Rovers: Both Teams to score - No - 2/10
Bohemians v Sligo Rovers: Handicap Draw (Bohs -1) - 2/10
