Newcastle United sign first professional contracts with teenage trio
Newcastle United have secured the professional commitment of young talents Ben Parkinson, Ciaran Thompson, and Shaun Mavididi, all of whom have signed their first contracts with the Magpies.
Durham-born striker Parkinson, who joined the club's academy at age seven, impressed in the 2022/23 season, scoring five goals and making two assists in 11 Under-18 Premier League fixtures.
He also netted thrice in the FA Youth Cup campaign. Speaking to nufc.co.uk, Parkinson said, “I’m absolutely over the moon to sign my first professional contract... to do it here at the club I grew up supporting makes it even more special."
London-born winger Mavididi, who joined the Magpies' academy from Arsenal in 2021, is excited about the prospects of the UEFA Youth League.
Making 26 appearances for Newcastle's under-18 side last term, Mavididi said, "I'm over the moon to sign my first professional contract... There's a good buzz going around the club and the future looks so exciting."
Thompson, a defender from Blyth who joined the academy at 13, echoed his teammates' sentiments, stating, “I’m delighted to sign my first professional contract at my boyhood club. It’s a special feeling and a dream come true to sign for the club I grew up loving and supporting."
