Under-19 European Championship: Iceland bow out as Norway seal date with Portugal in the last-four
Andrew Dempsey reports from the Tony Bezzina Stadium, Malta
Iceland have been eliminated from the under-19 European Championship following their scoreless draw against Greece.
The Icelandics knew that they had to win to qualify and hope that Norway were defeated by Spain in the other group game.
However, Iceland were unable to claim a priceless win against the Greeks in front of just over 224 spectators. Elsewhere, Norway drew with Spain.
Iceland did at least have chances to win the game but could not convert chances from Agust Thorsteinsson and Gisli Thorsdarson to claim victory.
But even if they did win it would not have mattered as Norway avoided defeat against group winners Spain.
However, the Norwegians had to withstand a barrage of Spanish pressure at times in front of a sparsely populated National Stadium in Ta’ Qali.
And they will take on Portugal in their semi-final clash while Spain are set to face Group A runners-up Italy in their last-four showdown. Both games will take place on Thursday night.
These guys are among the top-4 in Europe 🇳🇴
