Aspin joins Chelsea from Bristol City
Chelsea Women have acquired the services of 18-year-old centre-back Brooke Aspin from Bristol City, who has immediately been loaned back to her former club for the 2023/24 season.
The promising defender has inked a four-year deal with Chelsea but will continue her growth with the recently promoted Women’s Super League side Bristol City in the coming season.
Upon the announcement of her signing, Aspin expressed her excitement: ‘It feels amazing, I’ve dreamed of this moment since I was a little girl and to be here right now, I can’t really put it into words. I’m excited to learn from the best, the players and staff are world class and I want to be world class myself. This is where I want to be and what I want to surround myself with.’
Chelsea's manager, Emma Hayes, is optimistic about Aspin's future, stating, ‘Brooke is a player that we have been tracking for the last three years. She has extensive experience for her age and is a young centre-back that we have very high hopes for in the future.’
General manager Paul Green echoed these sentiments, adding, ‘We believe Brooke is the best young centre-back of her age in the country. We look forward to seeing her continue to develop this season in the WSL at Bristol City.’
Aspin, a product of the Bristol City academy, debuted for the first team at just 16. Known for her aggressive and dominant style, Aspin has displayed maturity and leadership skills well beyond her age.
Last season, she overcame a health setback to make a strong return and scored a header in a 4-0 victory that helped secure Bristol City's promotion to the WSL.
Internationally, Aspin has represented England at various youth levels, playing for the Under-17, Under-18, and Under-19 teams. In her last appearance, she captained the Under-19 team.
