Shelbourne sign Harry Wood and Harry Fisk from Hull City
Shelbourne has announced the arrival of two players from Hull City.
Central midfielder Harry Wood has joined the Irish club on loan for the remainder of the 2023 season, while goalkeeper Harry Fisk has been signed permanently.
20-year-old Wood, a native of Leeds, embarked on his football journey at Manchester United’s academy before joining Hull's academy as an Under-16 player.
He made his senior debut in Hull's game of the 2020/21 season against Charlton Athletic, leading to the League One title.
After a loan spell at Scunthorpe United, Wood returned to Hull and made contributions to the Under-21s last season, with a hat-trick against Charlton and a goal in the national Professional Development League semi-final against Millwall among the highlights.
Upon joining Shelbourne, Wood stated, “I’m delighted to join Shelbourne FC on loan, I can’t wait to get playing...the League of Ireland is a competitive league and Shels are a great club with brilliant supporters so I’m looking forward to putting the Red shirt on and doing the best I can."
In the meantime, the Shelbourne squad is bolstered by the permanent signing of 20-year-old goalkeeper Harry Fisk, who will be filling the shoes left vacant after Scott van-der-Sluis' departure.
Fisk, who started his career at Hull City’s academy, has honed his skills through previous loan experiences at Spalding United and Tadcaster Albion.
Fisk seemed eager to start this new chapter in his career: “It’s been a hectic few days but I’m delighted to be here as a Shelbourne player... I want to develop as a person and a player and I feel that Tolka Park is the perfect place for me to do that.“
Shelbourne's Head Coach, Duff, spoke highly of Fisk: “Harry Fisk comes with great pedigree and we are delighted he is here. He has great shot stopping abilities aligned with being very talented with his feet."
Duff also expressed his delight at Wood's arrival: “He has a high level of technical ability and will no doubt improve our squad... He is very honest and hard-working and will fit nicely into our culture.”
The recent move to become majority shareholder in Shelbourne by Acun Ilıcalı, who also owns English club Hull City, is beginning to make its mark with these player signings.
