Angelo Ogbonna extends stay at West Ham United with one-year contract

West Ham United has confirmed that Italian defender, Angelo Ogbonna, has signed a new one-year contract extension.

Ogbonna, the second-longest serving player at the club after Aaron Cresswell, finalised his contract extension after his previous deal concluded at the end of June.

Ogbonna recently made his 232nd appearance for West Ham as a late substitute in the UEFA Europa Conference League final victory over ACF Fiorentina in Prague. With this new contract, the Italian defender enters his ninth season wearing the Claret and Blue.

"It feels really good to remain with West Ham. I'm really pleased with what we've achieved, and I'm pleased with what we did last season," Ogbonna told whufc.com.

"I want to thank the club and, as I always say, I'm here to help. Now I'm here to stay as well and I really want to keep going and pushing on now."

Ogbonna first signed with West Ham in the summer of 2015, coming from Italian giants Juventus. He quickly became a fan favorite, making a name for himself during his first year with 39 appearances, which saw the Hammers secure a top-seven finish in their final season at the Boleyn Ground.

He shared his deep emotional connection with the club: “I can never really put into words what West Ham means to me. This is the club where I grew up and became a man. This is the Club where I’ve seen my children growing up... everyone welcomed us to east London with open arms."

Club manager David Moyes expressed his satisfaction at Ogbonna's contract extension, stating, "I am pleased that Angelo has agreed a new contract with the Club. He is an important player for us, both on and off the pitch, and his experience and character have been extremely valuable for us during my time here."

Despite suffering a serious knee injury during a Premier League fixture against Liverpool in November 2021, Ogbonna fought his way back to first team action in August 2022.

He then played a crucial part in West Ham's victorious UECL campaign, which marked their first major silverware win in 43 years and their third consecutive season of European football.
