Kerry has confirmed the signing of Martin Coughlan as part of the summer transfer window.

The 23-year-old midfielder, originally from Abbeyfeale, comes from Treaty United, where he appeared in 12 SSE Airtricity First Division games.

Coughlan follows his former Treaty United teammate, Matt Keane, marking the second transfer from the Markets Field-based club to Kerry this summer.

The player, who has experience in both central and attacking midfield roles, began his career at the Kerry Academy at Under 17 and 19 levels.

Coughlan transitioned to Cobh Ramblers for his final year at 19's, eventually joining their senior team.

Before his transfer to Kerry, he signed with Treaty United ahead of the 2022 season. The move, which sees Coughlan donning the number 19 jersey for Kerry FC, follows the opening of the summer transfer window on July 1st.

In response to his new team, Coughlan said, “I’m absolutely buzzing to get going here with Kerry. I really enjoyed my time with Treaty and I must thank them for the opportunity they gave me above in Limerick.”

He also expressed his eagerness to play regular first-team football and his excitement to play senior football in Mounthawk Park, citing a positive settling-in experience with familiar faces.

Kerry's First Team Manager Billy Dennehy voiced his optimism about Coughlan's arrival. He noted the player's solid experience from his time with the academy teams, Cobh, and Treaty, saying, "He is at a stage of his career now where he has to maximise his performances and be at a level that will push him onto the next stage of his career."

Dennehy also added, “Since Martin has come into training with us, he has performed really well and has blended into the group really well. I’m very excited to see what Martin can bring us over the next months as we enter the next phase of the season.”
