Daniel Farke takes over at Leeds United as First Team Manager

Leeds United has officially confirmed the appointment of Daniel Farke as the club's new first team manager.

The former Norwich City boss has agreed to a four-year deal at Elland Road, succeeding Sam Allardyce.

Farke, a 46-year-old German, brings extensive experience from both his playing career in the German lower leagues, primarily with SV Lippstadt, and managerial stints at Borussia Dortmund II, Norwich City, and Borussia Monchengladbach.

The newly appointed Leeds manager is stepping in to replace Sam Allardyce, who left the club at the end of the previous season.

Farke’s successful run at Norwich City began in the summer of 2017, where he led the team to a Sky Bet Championship title in the 2018/19 campaign.

Despite a brief dip to the Championship after a Premier League stint, Farke managed to guide Norwich back to the top, clinching another Championship title with a whopping 97 points.

Farke briefly joined FC Krasnodar in January 2022, but left the Russian club three months later without managing a game, amid the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Prior to his arrival at Leeds, he steered Borussia Monchengladbach to a 10th place finish in Bundesliga last season.

Upon joining Leeds, Farke acknowledged the weight of his new role, stating, “I’d like to thank everyone for the really warm welcome, I’m really grateful at this moment, to work for this amazing club. I feel humble at this time, I know the responsibility to fulfil all the expectations and I want to repay the trust shown."

He further emphasised the importance of fostering unity within the club, pledging to work closely with his staff, players, and the supportive Leeds fan base.

Leeds United's Paraag Marathe expressed his excitement over Farke's appointment, stating, "His record in the Championship is clear, and I am impressed by his leadership and plan to guide us back to the Premier League. We welcome Daniel and his staff to the club and look forward to a strong season.”

Farke's coaching team will include Eddie Riemer, Christopher John, and Chris Domogalla, all of whom have previously worked with him at Norwich.

His first league match at the helm of Leeds United will be against Cardiff City on Sunday, 6th August, marking the commencement of the Sky Bet Championship campaign at Elland Road.
