Liverpool have announced the signing of Hungarian midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig, pending a work permit.

This makes Szoboszlai the Reds' second acquisition in the summer window, following Alexis Mac Allister.

Szoboszlai joins Liverpool after two and a half years in the Bundesliga with RB Leipzig, during which he made 91 appearances across all competitions.

The 22-year-old player expressed his excitement during an interview at the AXA Training Centre, saying: “It’s really, really good. I enjoyed the last [few] days and I’m looking forward to knowing everybody better. The last three or four days went really long; it was not that easy. But at the end I’m here, I’m happy and I can’t wait to get started.”

The young player spoke highly of his new club, adding: "A really historic club, really good players, good coach, everything is good. For me it was perfect to make the next step in a club like this. The fans, the stadium, everything is really good.”

Szoboszlai's football career began in the youth development system at Red Bull Salzburg, an Austrian club. He made his professional debut in July 2017 for their sister club, FC Liefering, with 33 games and 10 goals in the first season.

He returned to Red Bull Salzburg before the end of the 2017-18 season, tallying 26 goals in 83 appearances. His performances led to him being named the Austrian Bundesliga Player of the Season for 2019-20.

The midfielder moved to Leipzig in January 2021, where despite an injury delay, he scored 20 goals and provided 22 assists in 91 appearances, helping the club win the DFB-Pokals in 2022 and 2023.

Internationally, Szoboszlai has earned 32 caps and scored seven goals for Hungary since his debut in March 2019. He was elected as the team's captain in November 2022.

In his first message to Liverpool supporters, Szoboszlai said, “That I can’t wait to see you in the stadium and I’m going to do everything that is possible from my side.”
