Charlton Athletic welcomes new goalkeeper Harry Isted on a two-year deal
Charlton Athletic has confirmed the acquisition of goalkeeper Harry Isted.
The 26-year-old has signed a two-year contract, with the club holding an option for a third year, and he will officially become a Charlton player after his current contract with Luton Town expires.
Isted gained recognition during his loan spell with Barnsley last season, where he kept nine clean sheets in 22 appearances, earning the Tykes a place in the Sky Bet League One play-off final.
His performances also led to him being named Barnsley's Player of the Month in March.
On joining the Addicks, Isted said, “It feels great to be a Charlton player. The Manager rang me and told me he wanted to bring me in and sold the club to me well, which was a big reason why I made the decision to come here.”
Charlton Athletic's Manager, Dean Holden, expressed his delight over the signing, saying, “I’m really pleased we’ve been able to bring Harry in. He’s an excellent all-round goalkeeper. He was very impressive at Barnsley last season, culminating in that eye-catching performance in the play-off final at Wembley."
Charlton Athletic's CEO, Peter Storrie, also chimed in, saying, “We’re very pleased we’ve signed Harry. We always knew it was likely Joe Wollacott would leave this summer to get back to playing regular first-team football, so Dean and I have been working hard to sign a player of Harry’s calibre.”
Isted, who started his football journey with Southampton and Stoke City, joined Luton in 2017. He had subsequent loan spells with Chesham United, Oxford City, Wealdstone and Barnsley.
At Barnsley, he cemented his place as the first-choice goalkeeper, making 22 consecutive starts. He will join Charlton's pre-season training when it begins on Monday.
