Bournemouth signs Dutch international Justin Kluivert from AS Roma
Bournemouth has announced the signing of Justin Kluivert from Serie A side AS Roma.
The Netherlands international signed a long-term contract with the Cherries for an undisclosed fee, marking the club's first acquisition under their newly-appointed head coach, Andoni Iraola.
The 24-year-old forward brings extensive experience to the Bournemouth squad, having played in top divisions across the Netherlands, Italy, Germany, France, and Spain.
Kluivert, who holds the title of Roma’s youngest Champions League scorer, netted eight goals and delivered two assists in 29 appearances during a loan spell with La Liga side Valencia last season.
Neill Blake, AFC Bournemouth's chief executive, expressed his delight over Kluivert's signing.
“He was coveted by a number of clubs across Europe and his arrival is a sign of his ambition, which is matched by ours," he said.
"Justin is an exciting and versatile attacking player who has an eye for goal. He is pacey, direct and boasts a high level of technical ability.”
Blake pointed out Kluivert's extensive experience despite his young age, having played at the highest level domestically in five countries, in addition to his participation in the Champions League and Europa League and his international cap for the Netherlands.
“We are all very much looking forward to working with Justin, a player we believe will be a great addition to our squad and someone our supporters will enjoy watching.”
Kluivert, a native of Amsterdam, made a name for himself in the Ajax youth ranks before moving to Roma.
He registered 12 goals and nine assists in 44 games in Eredivisie, contributing to Roma's top-six finishes in Serie A in his first two seasons.
He also had loan spells with RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga and Nice in France's top flight.
Kluivert is set to join his new teammates for pre-season training early next month.
The Cherries will then head to Marbella for a warm-weather training camp, with friendlies scheduled against Hibs and Maccabi Tel Aviv on the Costa del Sol, followed by matches against Atalanta and FC Lorient at the Vitality Stadium.
