Walsall has announced the signing of defender Priestley Farquharson on a two-year contract.

Farquharson will officially join the Saddlers on July 1st, following the expiration of his current contract with Newport County.

The 26-year-old defender spent his last two-and-a-half years at Rodney Parade with Newport County, playing in 65 matches and scoring five goals.

Farquharson had an impressive stint in South Wales, where he contributed to the team's journey to the 2020-21 League Two play-off final and showed his scoring prowess during the 2022/23 season.

Prior to his time with Newport County, Farquharson played for multiple non-league teams, including Hitchin Town, Billericay Town, Hayes & Yeading, and Bishop’s Stortford.

His career took a turn when he signed for Cymru Premier League side Connah’s Quay Nomads in January 2019.

He was a key player in their league title and Welsh League Cup wins in the 2019-20 season, and his performance led to his being named Young Player of the Season.

Farquharson also brings international experience, having played in both the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League. Furthermore, he has represented England’s Beach Soccer Team in over 50 matches.

Upon joining Walsall, Farquharson expressed his excitement.

“The move here felt right,” Farquharson said, adding, “All I want to do is succeed and this club aligns with my goals.”

Mat Sadler, Head Coach of Walsall, expressed his satisfaction with the acquisition, saying, “I’m delighted to get Priestley. He’s a man mountain of a guy, extremely mobile, really quick, and fits the demands of the division really well."

Sadler further complimented Farquharson's work ethic and hunger for improvement, character traits he values in his players.
