Tom Davies to depart from Everton following contract expiration
Tom Davies is set to leave the club as he declined a new contract offer, with his current one expiring at the end of June.
Aged 24, the central midfielder has been with Everton since he was 11 years old, climbing the ranks of the club's academy and eventually making his debut against Southampton in April 2016 at the age of 17.
He made history as the youngest captain in the club's history at 20 years and 60 days, showcasing leadership in both club and country, captaining England at every level from the Under-15s to Under-21s.
Over the years, Davies has appeared in an impressive 179 matches for the Toffees, finding the back of the net seven times.
"We offered Tom a new contract, but he feels he has reached the stage in his career where he needs regular first-team football and, as a result, he wants to look at alternative options away from Everton,” Everton's Director of Football, Kevin Thelwell, explained.
Alongside his football career, Davies also contributed significantly to Everton's charity work. Sue Gregory, Chief Executive of Everton in the Community, praised the departing midfielder.
“Tom has always been unwavering in his support and was a fantastic ambassador for the Club, doing charitable work of his own accord around this city he loves so much. We thank him for everything he has done for us.”
Thelwell further added, “As a lifelong Evertonian and proud Scouser, Tom has always given everything for the Club. We respect his decision and thank him for his service and commitment. Everyone at Everton wishes him the very best for the future.”
