Newport County's manager, Graham Coughlan, has marked his second signing of the summer with the acquisition of 24-year-old Kyle Jameson from League Two side Tranmere Rovers, subject to EFL approval.

Jameson's signing swiftly follows the arrival of local talent Nathan Wood from Penybont. The central defender has agreed to a two-year deal with Newport County, setting his sights on the upcoming campaign.

Beginning his career in 2017 at Southport, Jameson quickly caught the attention of numerous Premier League teams, eventually securing a coveted transfer to Chelsea.

His contributions to Chelsea's U18's squad played a part in the team's English Youth League triumph.

He has had subsequent stints at West Brom, Barrow (on loan), AFC Fylde, Oldham, and most recently Tranmere Rovers.

In his most recent season with Rovers, Jameson made 14 appearances before Coughlan convinced him to join Newport County.

Commenting on his new addition, Coughlan said: “Kyle has fantastic size and has a great presence. One thing we were short of last season was pace and he brings us that in abundance. He’s effective in both boxes with his height and he’s very capable of commanding that back line. Kyle has massive potential and there is no reason he can’t kick on and play higher. I really think with the potential that he has that if he buys into us, he can really push on with his career.”

Excited about his new journey, Newport’s newest player Jameson said, “I met with the gaffer a few weeks ago and had a good long chat. I liked everything he said about Newport, and at that point I knew it was perfect for me. I am delighted to be here, I can’t wait to get going, meet all the boys and have a good season going forward.”
