Avenir Sports All-Island Cup wrap: Rovers revenge over Peamount as Linfield lose to Galway

A summary of games on Saturday across the four groups in the Avenir Sports All-Island Cup.

Group A

Galway United defeated Linfield 1-0 in Midgley Park in Belfast thanks to an early fourth minute goal from Jenna Slattery.

Shelbourne won 4-1 away to Athlone Town thanks to a Kayla Hamric hat-trick and a goal from Megan Smyth-Lynch. Hazel Donegan got a consolation goal in injury time for Town.

Group B

Having suffered their first defeat of the season last week, losing to Peamount United 1-0 in the league in Tallaght, Shamrock Rovers exerted a modicum of revenge by beating the Peas 2-1.

Rovers scored through a Jamie Thompson penalty and a goal from Lauren Kelly with Chloe Moloney scoring late on for the visitors.

Collie O’Neill handed Summer Lawless a Hoops debut in a competitive game with Amanda Budden named on the bench.

In the other group G game, Glentoran drew 1-1 with Wexford Youths in the Blanchflower Stadium with Kerry Anne Beattie scoring for the home side and a Ciara Rossiter strike for the League of Ireland side.



Group C

At the Showgrounds on Saturday, Sligo Rovers lost 3-1 to Bohemians.

The Gypsies were helped by two own goals from Bonnie McKiernan and Keela Scanlong, along with a Niamh Prior 58th minute strike. Casey Howe scored a 94th minute penalty for the home team.

At Solitude Cliftonville defeated Sion Swifts (the replacement team in the competition for Derry City) 2-1.  

Group D

DLR Waves went down to a 2-1 defeat in Fermoy to Cork City. Chloe Atkinson and Kiera Sean scored in the first half for City, with Katie Malone scoring a 56th minute peno for Waves.



Crusaders Strikers won 3-2 at Seaview against Treaty United. The home side were 3-0 up before Cara Griffin scored twice to make it a nervy end for the Strikers.
