Former Manchester City coach Enzo Maresca takes charge at Leicester City
Enzo Maresca, formerly of Manchester City, has been unveiled as the new First Team Manager for Leicester City, as they gear up for a bid for promotion from the Championship this season.
Maresca, 43, has signed a contract through 2026 and has begun immediate preparations for the forthcoming EFL Championship season.
The experienced Italian coach comes from a recent stint under Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.
He played a role in their triumphant treble win last season, securing the Premier League, FA Cup, and UEFA Champions League titles.
Leicester City Chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha is confident in Maresca's capabilities, stating, "Enzo brings a combination of personality, method and ambition that meets extremely well with the footballing direction we are looking to take."
He further praised Maresca's coaching background and his shared vision for the club's future.
On his new role, Maresca said, “I’m very excited because of the Club [I’m joining] and because we have a big season ahead of us. The most important thing is to try to win games.”
Maresca boasts a rich pedigree in football management, influenced by Europe’s top managers, including Guardiola, Carlo Ancelotti, and Marcello Lippi.
After starting his coaching career in Italy, he earned his stripes as an assistant coach at West Ham United, led Manchester City’s Elite Development Squad to a Premier League 2 title, and undertook a head coaching role at Parma before rejoining Guardiola’s staff.
Leicester City fans can expect to see their new boss in action for the first time on 15 July during a pre-season friendly against Northampton Town. The team will then set off for Southeast Asia for fixtures against Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool before the EFL Championship season begins.
