While the Boys in Green were suffering a 2-1 away loss in Athens, Ireland’s next opponents Gibraltar were defeated 3-0 at home by France on Friday night.

The World Cup runners up took an early lead through the country’s record goalscorer Olivier Giroud off a Kingsley Coman assist.

They made it 2-0 at the break with Kylian Mbappe getting on the scoresheet. The PSG star slotted home a penalty kick three minutes into first half injury time.

The third was an OG 12 minutes from time when Aymen Mouelhi put through his own net.

Gibraltar had lined up 4-5-1 against Didier Deschamps men and will be a similar set up when they come to Lansdowne Road on Monday night.

The result keeps Ireland off the bottom of the group on goal difference.
