Doncaster Rovers have bolstered their ranks with the acquisition of Wolverhampton Wanderers' attacker, Tyler Roberts, on a season-long loan.

This move marks the 19-year-old's first foray into league football outside of Wolves' youth teams.

He made his professional debut in 2021, and his performance quickly catapulted him into the international football scene where he represented Jamaica.

Roberts continued to make strides at Wolves, scoring in the EFL Trophy last season against Stockport County.

Commenting on his move to Rovers, Roberts expressed his excitement: “It’s a big step in my career, getting the first bit of first team action and playing in the league in real football. I’m excited to see how I will handle it.”

The loan agreement comes after Roberts committed his future to Wolves, signing a contract extension that will keep him at the Molineux Stadium until the summer of 2025.

Rovers' Manager, Grant McCann, has high hopes for Roberts, whose potential he acknowledged: “Tyler is a really exciting young winger...This is his first loan but he’s more than ready for the step-up to men’s football and speaking to him, he’s really excited about the opportunity.”

The move was praised by Wolves' Strategic Player Marketing Manager, Matt Jackson, who emphasized the value of the experience Roberts will gain at Rovers:

“It’s a really good set-up and we expect them to be very competitive in that league this season, so the independence Tyler will have by going into a new club and the maturity he will gain from it will be excellent for his long-term future.

“He’s developed really well in recent years, he has an outstanding asset in his exceptional pace that we hope he can utilise, and we also want him to round off other elements of his game, which like all young players need development."
