Aberdeen has signed a four-year contract with Leighton Clarkson, procuring the midfielder from Premier League side Liverpool for an undisclosed fee.

This marks the club's second acquisition of the summer under the leadership of Barry Robson.

Having previously played on loan at Pittodrie, 21-year-old Clarkson made a significant impact with 29 appearances in a red shirt, contributing to a third-place finish in the cinch Premiership and securing European group stage football next season.

Clarkson, an England Under 20 International, worked his way up through Liverpool's youth ranks and enjoyed a loan spell at his hometown club, Blackburn Rovers, before his stint at Aberdeen.

Barry Robson, Dons' boss, expressed delight at Clarkson's return.

“There is no doubt Leighton had a positive impact during his time with us last season and its hugely encouraging that he has now chosen this club as his home, and the best place for his continued development,” Robson stated.

He praised the young prospect as the ideal player for the club, noting his youth, ambition, and technical prowess, stating, “He is a brilliant prospect and exactly the type of player we want here at the club. He’s young, hungry, and technically very good."

Robson further highlighted Clarkson's rapport with fans and his on-pitch creativity during his time at Pittodrie.

“He was much admired for the creativity he brought on the pitch and showed a real affinity with the supporters during his time at Pittodrie last season," Robson concluded.
