Northampton Town has successfully signed defender Patrick Brough on a two-year contract, set to commence on July 1st, 2023.

The towering 6ft 3in left back makes his way to Sixfields following a productive four-year stint at Barrow, during which he made 173 appearances.

Brough's career trajectory includes an initial phase at Carlisle United with 49 appearances, a 2016 loan spell at Lincoln City, and a period at Salford City, where he played twenty times.

He later moved to Morecambe and Falkirk, where he made 23 and 21 appearances respectively.

A significant chapter of his career unfolded at Holker Street, where he became a regular contributor to Barrow's success, notably contributing to their promotion to the EFL.

Last season saw him play 46 times, leading the Bluebirds to a 9th place finish in the Sky Bet League 2.

The 27-year-old defender declined a new contract offered by Barrow, sparking interest from several clubs this summer before finally choosing to move to Sixfields.

Manager Jon Brady expressed his delight at securing Brough's services amid the intense competition.

“Patrick is a player who was on our radar in previous transfer windows and we are delighted to be able to bring him to Sixfields at this point amid some strong competition for his services," said Brady.

Brady spoke highly of the new addition to the team, highlighting Brough's fit with their player profile.

"He is a good age, a good size, strong, athletic, he has a lot of experience for a player of his age and we believe he is on an upward trajectory in his career. He is mobile, has a good engine, an excellent left foot, he is good going forward, gives us different options down the left-hand side and is a good character who will fit in well with the group here," he added.

The manager also noted Brough's impressive track record, citing his performance in recent seasons.

"He has played 140 games in the last three seasons, we have come up against him a few times and he has impressed us each time we have played against him,” Brady concluded.
