Bristol City has confirmed that midfielder Rachel Furness will remain with the team for the 2023/24 season.

Furness, who transferred from Liverpool in January, contributed to the team's success by appearing in 12 matches and helping secure the Barclays Women's Championship title.

Lauren Smith, Head Coach of Bristol City, spoke highly of Furness, stating, "Rachel is a really important player for us so it was important we got this deal done. She provides important experience and is a valuable member of the squad both on and off the pitch."

Furness brings a significant amount of experience to the team, having previously played in the Barclays Women's Super League for Reading, Tottenham Hotspur, and Liverpool. In addition to her club career, she has represented Northern Ireland at the international level.

Reflecting on her decision to stay with Bristol City, Furness said, “I really enjoyed my time at the club over the second half of last season so for me it was a no brainer to be part of this squad to help it develop and progress into the WSL."

She went on to acknowledge her role in the team, expressing, "I came in last season and hopefully I showed my leadership skills and experience in the short time I was here and I want to help as much as I can on and off the pitch as we make the transition up to the top flight. We’ve got a fantastic group of girls and a brilliant working environment.”
