Preston North End welcomes Liverpool's Calvin Ramsay on season-long loan
Preston North End have announced that they have successfully signed Calvin Ramsay, the right-sided defender from Liverpool, on a season-long loan.
A Scottish international, Ramsay will officially become a part of North End on July 15th, marking the club's first new arrival of the summer.
Ramsay's football journey began in the Scottish Premiership with Aberdeen, where he ascended through the ranks before moving to Liverpool in June 2022.
The 19-year-old footballer expressed his excitement at the move, saying, “I’m delighted to join Preston North End. The Championship is a top league as everyone knows and the main thing for me is trying to get game time, and I’m going to be able to do that at a good club. I can’t wait to get started."
Ramsay appreciated the potential this move brings to his career, stating that getting regular game time in a strong league is crucial for his development.
He also highlighted his interaction with the club's manager, Ryan Lowe, mentioning, "The way the team plays, they like to play attacking football, keep the ball and get forward. I think that suits my game because I can score and assist goals, and I like getting at people. Ultimately Preston suited me the best."
Having made his senior debut for Aberdeen in March 2021, Ramsay impressed the football world with 39 appearances for the club.
His skill and perseverance earned him the title of Young Player of the Year by the Scottish Football Writers’ Association for the 2021/22 campaign, which marked his first full season in professional football.
Following this, he signed a long-term deal with Premier League side Liverpool, where he has since featured twice, including an appearance in the Champions League.
Preston's Manager, Ryan Lowe, voiced his satisfaction with this new addition to the team: “I’m really pleased we’ve managed to get Calvin through the door on a season-long loan. He fills a position we’ve been looking to fill for a while as it gives us good competition down that right-hand side where Brad Potts has obviously been fantastic."
"It gives us options now, too. We’ve got a right back in the building as well as someone who can play right wing back. He’s energetic, he’s dynamic, and he can get himself up and down the pitch. Liverpool obviously invested a lot of money in him after he came through at Aberdeen so we know the quality he’s got.”
