Wexford Youths have parted ways with manager Stephen Quinn after a disappointing start to the 2023 season.

The club released a statement on Tuesday saying:

Wexford Youths Women FC can confirm Stephen Quinn has stepped down as manager of our senior team.

We would like to place on record our thanks to Stephen for his professionalism, commitment and hard work during his four years at the club which included a never to be forgotten FAI Cup Final win in his first season in charge.

We wish Stephen all the best for the future and he will always be welcome back at Ferrycarrig Park.

The Cashel native led Youths to FAI Cup glory in 2021, sealed with a dramatic 3-1 win over Shelbourne in the final at Tallaght Stadium.

But 2023 has not been as successful for the south-east side, however, as they sit a distance sixth in the table with 17 points from 12 games and out of contention for the title ahead of the mid-season break.

A run of just one win in their last five games - the most reason a 5-0 hammering at home to Shels - sees the FAI South Tipperary development officer’s two-year reign come to an end.

Quinn took over the reins from Tom Elmes midway through the 2021 season as Elmes stepped up to become Ireland under-16 manager, and later Vera Pauw’s assistant at senior level.



The understated boss - who spent the previous 18 months as Elmes’ assistant - guided Youths to third place in the table that season before helping the side to their fourth FAI Cup crown.
