League Preview: Drogheda United -v- St Patrick’s Athletic

DROGHEDA UNITED

Drogheda United host in-form St Patrick’s Athletic at Weavers Park on Friday evening as they bid to get back to winning ways.

Two losses on the bounce have sent the Drogs into the precarious relegation play-off position after an impressive start to the season.

But following Cork City’s recent surge in results and performances, the Boynesiders have now slipped back to 9th.

And while they are unlikely to be too worried about their position just yet, a scalp at home to the Saints would ease their relegation worries.

But they head into Friday’s clash at the Windmill Road venue without the services of youngster Warren Davis – while Aaron McNally and Dylan Grimes are doubts.

ST PATRICK’S ATHLETIC

High-flying St Patrick’s Athletic visit Drogheda on Friday evening looking to catapult themselves into a title race this season.

A win over Derry City last weekend means that the Saints are just four points behind Shamrock Rovers at the top of the table.

But boss Jon Daly is wary of the challenge that the Athletic will face against Kevin Doherty’s side.

“The lads are confident going into the game, we're well aware of the threats that Drogheda United pose,” he said. “They are a decent side and they've got some very good players.

“We'll give them the full respect that they deserve while also concentrating on what we're looking to do in the game.

“Weavers Park is a difficult venue to go to, and although we have had good results against them recently, that counts for nothing going into this game.

“It's important that we turn up on Friday and play to the levels that we have done.”

Joe Redmond, Tom Grivosti and Axel Sjoberg are all out. Jake Mulraney is also suspended.

Referee: Paul McLaughlin.
