Allardyce bids farewell to Leeds United following end of season departure
Leeds United Football Club and former manager Sam Allardyce have mutually agreed to part ways, ending Allardyce's tenure at the club following the culmination of the 2022/23 season.
Allardyce was brought on board for the final four matches of the season in a bid to salvage the club's Premier League status, which ultimately proved unsuccessful despite spirited performances against formidable sides like Manchester City and Newcastle United.
The seasoned manager reflected on his short-lived spell at Leeds United, stating, "It has been an honour to manage Leeds United, a great club with an incredible fan base, who deserve to be in the Premier League."
Allardyce also commended the dedication of the staff and players at the club and extended his gratitude to Angus Kinnear, the club's CEO, for the opportunity.
Allardyce said, "I’d also like to highlight the outstanding work of Karl Robinson and Robbie Keane who have worked tirelessly over the past few weeks."
"At this stage in my career, I am not sure taking on this challenge, which is potentially a long-term project, is something I could commit to, but I wish the club every success for the future and hope the club returns to the Premier League, where they belong."
Leeds United CEO, Angus Kinnear, expressed his gratitude towards Allardyce for his efforts during this challenging time, "We thank Sam for being brave enough to step in and do all he could to save us. Sadly, it was not to be, but Sam, Karl and Robbie did everything they could to lift the mood at Thorp Arch and Elland Road and for that we are all extremely grateful."
The club is currently in the process of seeking a new head coach to guide the team in its bid to make a return to the top tier of English football. An official announcement is expected to be made in the upcoming weeks.
