Shrewsbury Town secures promising young talent Michael Parker
Shrewsbury Town has completed the signing of 18-year-old Michael Parker.
The towering defender, standing at 6'4", made the decision to join Shrewsbury amid competing interest from notable clubs such as Rangers, Stoke City, and West Bromwich Albion.
Parker, a native of London, was formerly affiliated with Huddersfield Town. His introduction to Shrewsbury came towards the end of the 2022/23 season when he participated in a successful trial.
During this period, he trained with the first team and played with the under-18s, impressing staff members across the board with his understanding of the game, pace, and defensive versatility.
Expressing his excitement, Parker said, “I'm very, very happy. As soon as I came in I was welcomed a lot by all the players and staff. After my first training session, I had a good feeling about the place so I'm delighted to get it over the line."
Parker went on to describe himself as a ball-playing centre-back, boasting of his athletic, fast, quick, and strong attributes.
He also emphasized his dedication to making a positive impact, saying, "I just want to get as much first-team football under my belt as possible."
Echoing Parker's enthusiasm, Academy Director David Longwell commented, “This is a fantastic signing for us... He trained with the first team and we were all really impressed with him, so we’re delighted he’s signed on for next season!”
