Buckley happy with first point

Sporting Fingal manager Liam Buckley was satisfied with his sides'
performance after The Ravens drew at home with Sligo Rovers, gaining their first point in the Airtricity Premier Division in the process.
"I thought they played particularly well," Buckley stated post match. "They passed better in the second half. Overall maybe a draw was a fair result, I don’t know, but on chances we probably would have snuck it."
Although Fingal seemed to struggle a bit in front of goal, Buckley was dismissive of any real striking problem.
"We scored more goals than any team in both divisions last season. [We had] eight new players in this season...there’s a little bit of newness about that but I’ve no doubt once we get going over the next few games we’ll improve.
"We were disappointed with the result last week, we thought it was never a penalty, but you move on. They (Sligo) are seen as a top three or four team, so to that end I thought we played particularly well against them in the first half. We had all the play, all the chances, I don’t remember having anything to do in the first half. They had a bit of possession but they didn’t really hurt us in any area."
Despite two accomplished performances, Fingal are left with just a point to their name. Buckley was optimistic that a win would come with further work on the training field.
"We’re into the second game of the season in our first opportunity in the Premier Division and I can’t fault the effort any of the lads have given. We’ll work on the final third, on finishing teams off."
Despite the club being just three years old, Fingal find themselves in the Premier Division ahead of schedule. The manager is more than pleased with the club’s development.
"Our ambition was, a few years back, to try and get this team into the Premier Division as part of the soccer development plan for Fingal. There’s a huge amount of work going on off the pitch which doesn’t get written about. We’re delighted to be here, we’ve a lot of good players with ability. It’s just a question of them realising their potential as a group.
“It’s a work in progress, we do have quite a few new lads in and they’re working extremely hard. There’s an honesty within the group and I’ve no doubt we will improve as the season goes on. We just need to get a win as quickly as we can."
