Derby County trigger option to extend Jason Knight’s contract
Jason Knight has seen his contract at League One Derby County extended after his club triggered an option to do so.
Former Cabinteely schoolboy Knight has starred for the Rams since his emergence in their first-team squad during the 2019/20 season.
But the Ireland international will be plying his trade in League One next season after the Rams missed out on promotion via the play-offs this term.
The 22-year-old was out of contract at the end of this season, but due to reaching a certain number of appearances this season Derby have been able to trigger an extension.
In their retained list for the 2023/24 season, the club confirmed Knight remains under contract at the club.
Eiran Cashin, James Collins and Conor Hourihane also remain under contract at Pride Park for Paul Warne next season.
However, they have offered a deal to David McGoldrick to keep him there for another campaign.
McGoldrick, 35, is a 14-time senior Ireland international and made 39 league appearances for the club. He also scored 22 goals in League One.
Meanwhile, former St Kevin’s Boys and Bohemians youngster Cian Kelly-Caprani has been released by the club.
Olamide Ibrahim, previously of Cherry Orchard also parted ways with the Rams.
Loanee Tony Springett – an Ireland underage international – has returned to parent club Norwich City after a spell on loan with Derby.
